Posters Full of Inspiration

After finding a typographic poster for "Show and Tell" last week, I decided to look for more examples of posters involving typography. Usually posters with a lot of imagery appeal to me more than those with just type. The reason being is that up until now I did really dig into the art of typography. Sometimes the idea of just using letterforms to present an idea just scares me because for me it is more challenging. But with this class and with the exercises that we have been working on, I feel that I am starting to scratch out of the box. So on that note here are some posters that I found that could inspire future Typographers.

Even before I started searching for the posters that I will be posting; I have seen posters with type that form images. This is one of my favorites of the three that I will be posting. I love the flow of the type that create the image of James Brown. It reminds me of some his dance moves, smooth but wild.

I liked this poster for a few reasons. I love how the typography forms the hand print and how the hand print "bleeds" into the shape of a map towards the bottom of the hand print. I also like how the "My Fight" within the hand print is light compared to the color of the background behind the rest of the words. The way the designer used the background texture to come through makes those words stand out. There was another poster with a similar design with the hand print taking up more space. I feel this was a more successful composition because of the beautiful negative space.

I wanted to include this poster because I liked how the designer used the typography look like an abstract form. The design itself is fairly simply and the treatment to the type is easily achieved. I even liked the way that the designer bled the word "DESIGN" on the opposite ends of the word into the bigger letterform. The design weaves the viewers eye back and forth creating a lot of movement. I also like the irregularity of the bigger letters' outline.
